STARZ SETS APRIL 1st PREMIERE DATE FOR “CAMELOT,” A NEW TAKE ON THE TIMELESS TALE OF KING ARTHUR

Epic Adventure Series Stars Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green and Jamie Campbell Bower

Los Angeles – December 20, 2010 – “Camelot,” the highly anticipated original series, will premiere on Starz Friday, April 1st at 10 p.m. et/pt, the network announced today.

The 10-episode epic drama, redefines the classic medieval tale of King Arthur with an exciting ensemble cast including Joseph Fiennes reimagining the iconic role of Merlin, Jamie Campbell Bower as the young and reckless Arthur, and Eva Green in her television debut as the darkly powerful Morgan. The character-driven series also features Tamsin Egerton (Guinevere), Claire Forlani (Igraine) and Peter Mooney (Kay).

In the wake of King Uther’s sudden death, chaos threatens to engulf Britain. When the sorcerer Merlin has visions of a dark future, he installs the young and impetuous Arthur, Uther’s unknown son and heir, who has been raised from birth as a commoner. But Arthur’s cold and ambitious half sister Morgan will fight him to the bitter end, summoning unnatural forces to claim the crown in this epic battle for control. These are dark times indeed for the new King, with Guinevere being the only shining light in Arthur’s harsh world. Faced with profound moral decisions, and the challenge of uniting a kingdom broken by war and steeped in deception, Arthur will be tested beyond imagination. Forget everything you think you knowthis is the story of Camelot that has never been told before.

Starz’ newest original series takes a distinctly fresh approach to one of the most enduring tales of all time, and brims with love, power and betrayal amidst breathtaking locales. Shot on-location in Ireland, “Camelot” is an Irish-Canadian co-production from Octagon and Take 5 Productions, and executive produced along with Ecosse Films and GK-tv. Starz and GK-tv are the U.S. and international distributors of “Camelot,” respectively, and Take 5 Productions holds Canadian rights.

    http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/archives/gemma_arteton_andrew_garfield_to_star_in_michael_manns_capa/

“Arterton will take over the role previously slotted for Eva Green, that of fellow photographer Gerda Taro whose romance with Capa is the focal point of Susana Fortes‘s novel “Waiting For Robert Capa” which is serving as the source material for the big screen film.” :( BOO!

I like Gemma, but still – would’ve loved to have seen Eva with Michael Mann.

Diane Kruger replace Eva in Les Adieux à la reine :(

Ugh, Eva’s no longer attached to Farewell, My Queen and Michael Mann’s Robert Capa movie. I wasn’t sure about the timing regarding Mann’s project – I was hoping he’d wait for her, but sadly, it seems not. Too bad, I think Garfield is great, but I find Arterton kind of shallow. At least Kruger is a better choice to play an Austrian than Eva.

I really, really hope Camelot is good. I thought the most recent leaked stills seemed just a bit too polished and pretty. I hope I’m wrong and the show has some bite. Either way, at least I know I’ll get about 10 hours of Eva Green from it. Still, it took 6 months to film 10 episodes, and with Arbitrage still set to go forward, she really doesn’t have much time for much else this year. I really hope the Callas project goes forward somehow.

  11. Comment by George in December 28, 2010 @ 4:30 pm

Nausicaa: Yes you are right! Ten hours of Eva in Camelot is like viewing 5 movies of her! Hearty! Don’t forget Perfect Sense which I am anxiously waiting too…

  12. Comment by Antigonus in December 28, 2010 @ 6:19 pm

That’s a pity; Diane Kruger is not much of an actress. I liked the sound of the Robert Capa movie though Mann is a overrated director.

  13. Comment by ammar in December 29, 2010 @ 6:12 am

i dnt know about mann’s project….but she had to choose between arbitrage and farewell,my queen because they have same filming dates….for me arbitrage is a wise choice….hopefully when perfect sense, camelot and arbitrage are out she ll definitely get good projects….big budgets(casino royale,KOH) with descent independent ones(cracks,womb)..that is EVA GREEN we know…

  14. Comment by Lola in December 29, 2010 @ 2:13 pm

Yes George, that’s exactly what I’m talking about! :(

Diane’s fantastic in Inglourios, but that’s about it – I think Eva would make a fab Austrian, imho, but it’s great she’s attached to/attracting so many projects…I’d hate to see her undervalued.

Gemma A is one of the ‘Hollywood Hotties’ right now, like Carey Mulligan – prepare to be bored of them over the next couple of years :o

I’m seriously pining for Eva on the big screen – or any screen for that matter. Even as Euro actors go, she’s got to be one of the pickiest!

  15. Comment by Lola in December 29, 2010 @ 2:14 pm

At least she’s a fantastic actress, without being as shallow as a teaspoon! ;)

  16. Comment by George in December 30, 2010 @ 12:37 am

Lola, ammar: …and don’t forget Callas project. I am particularly interested in it ;) I have a feeling that 2011 will be Eva’s year.

PS Wishes for all of you tomorrow. To be continued…

While obviously I’m partisan, Gemma Arterton playing Taro? Really? What producer came up with that idea?
