The Dark Shadows movie is the cover story of the latest issue of magazine Entertainment Weekly. Featuring interviews with director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (Barnabas Collins), along with other members of the cast and crew, it details the project’s development and confirms the film’s final budget at $125 million, considerably higher than the $60 million figure Variety reported at the end of last year.

“Barnabas extols the virtues of family and rejects people who are insincere and selfish,” explains Johnny Depp. “We wanted to pit this selfless family-first hero against the ‘Me’ decade.” Depp also speaks about filming scene with original Barnabas actor Jonathan Frid: “He was incredibly sweet about my taking on this character… Putting his eyeballs on me for the first time, all decked out as a slightly different version of him… it had to be pretty weird for him.” The issue is available on newsstands now and can also be downloaded in iPad format.

In other movie news, it’s been confirmed that the official tie-in book for the movie, Dark Shadows: The Art of the Film, will now be available in the United States. The large-format hardback book was originally announced for publication in the United Kingdom last November, promising production artwork, interviews and unseen photography. US readers can now pre-order the book by clicking here.
