Thanks to Isabell for the link to the new interview. 🙂

We’ve been wondering how Tim Burton was planning to compress over 1,200 “Dark Shadows” episodes into one feature film. The answer, it seems, is to keep some things the same while also taking great creative liberties.

To wit, while Johnny Depp told us his take on Barnabas — the vampire at the center of the ’60s-era supernatural soap — won’t stray far from the character pioneered by Jonathan Frid on the TV series, co-star Eva Green’s Angelique will be a far different creation than the one Lara Parker portrayed back in the day.

Locations in the Highlands are currently being scouted for the movie – a big screen remake of a gothic US TV soap Dark Shadows, which will be directed by Tim Burton.

Depp will play vampire Barnabas Collins, while Bond girl Eva Green, who starred in Casino Royale, is cast as Angelique in the movie, which is set to be released in April next year.

Trish Shorthouse, who heads the Highlands and Islands Film Commission, said yesterday: “We have heard they are looking at Scotland.

“We would be absolutely delighted if they do choose to film here.”

Dark Shadows ran in the US from 1966 to 1971.

Eva Green has landed the female lead in Dark Shadows, the Tim Burton-directed adaptation of the 60s supernatural TV soap opera for Warner Bros. Green, who made a most memorable impression when she broke James Bond’s heart in Casino Royale as Vesper Lynd, is negotiating to play the role of Angelique. In the series, she was a powerful witch who was alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins. Depp will play Collins. Lara Parker played the role in the original Gothic horror soap. The French-born actress most recently starred oppposite Ewan McGregor in the romantic thriller Perfect Sense, the Sundance title just acquired by IFC. Green just signed with UTA and she is also repped by UK-based Tavistock Wood.
