E! News showed a very short footage from the Cannes press conference tonight. Not only it was extremely short, but the main focus was Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman’s absence. That’s why I won’t be adding it to the Video Archives. I recorded and encoded the video and sent it to the ladies of Dedicated to Daniel. You can download it here.

Here’s a screencap in which Eva can be seen:

I’ve also updated the Filmography page with more info on “The Golden Compass”.

New Line Cinema has set the release schedule for its epic $150m adventure movie The Golden Compass, almost exactly duplicating the rollout of The Fellowship Of The Ring in 2001.

The film is having a major promotional launch today, just as Fellowship did at Cannes 2001, with a press conference and photo call as well as a screening of 20 minutes of footage.

Director Chris Weitz and stars including Daniel Craig, Eva Green and Dakota Blue Richards are all here, although Nicole Kidman is shooting in Australia.

The world premiere will take place in London on Nov 26 followed by the first territorial openings in France and Spain on Wed Dec 5 and in Germany and Holland on Thursday Dec 6.

The rest of the world, including North America, opens on Dec 7, except Italy which goes one week later on Dec 14 and Australia on Dec 26. Japan will open three months later on March 1. Those openings were the same for Fellowship.

Just as it did with its Tolkien tale, the studio offers just a peek at “Golden Compass.’

By John Horn, Times Staff Writer
May 21, 2007

CANNES, France — There’s no denying that Hollywood worships sequels. New Line Cinema has taken the love affair one step further: It’s cloning not a movie, but a movie launch.

For the second time in six years, the studio has come to the Cannes Film Festival with a few minutes of an unfinished film in tow. It’s to prove, yet again, that New Line not only hasn’t trampled a beloved piece of fantasy literature, but also has turned out an impressive epic. The drill turned out beautifully with 2001’s sneak peek at “Lord of the Rings” footage. But can lightning strike twice with “The Golden Compass”?

In the works for six years, “Compass ” represents what New Line — and writer-director Chris Weitz — hopes will be the first installment in another trilogy of ambitious blockbusters. Like “The Lord of the Rings,” which had a tortuous path to the screen, the first movie adapted from Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials” books did not coalesce easily. And as was true with New Line’s choice of Peter Jackson to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Golden Compass” represents a steep wager on a counterintuitive filmmaking choice.

Weitz is moving from alternately crude and clever comedies (“American Pie,” “About a Boy”) to an epic, effects-laden children’s adventure, set to open Dec. 7.

Wong Kar Wai: Advertising director

An interesting concept, since he’s best known for a meandering creative vision that includes a free-form shooting style and the lack of scripted scenarios.

But Wong can do corporate, evident by his growing portfolio of advertisements.

His most recent project was with Christian Dior’s John Galliano for a new Dior spot starring Eva Green.

I haven’t seen the spot yet and I don’t think it’s out already, but if anyone finds it online, please be sure to send in a link.

As you all know already, Eva Green and Louis Garrel were at the Festival Futuro Presente in Rovereto, Italy, yesterday. The meeting was great and the festival was a success. Many thanks to Laura Marongiu, one of the organizers, for sharing exclusive photos from the event with Eva Green Web. Credit for the photos belongs to Fulvio Fiorini.

The two French actors have both been successful in their careers since their breakthrough roles in Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. Louis was in some critically acclaimed French films and won a César as Most Promising Actor in 2006 for Les Amants Réguliers. Our Eva worked with prestigious international actors and directors and won the BAFTA Orange Rising Star award last February. And this is only the beginning…

Thanks to Emma, we have a new (old) video from the Journal de France 2. It’s a special feature on Casino Royale with short interviews with Daniel Craig, Caterina Murino and Eva Green.

Like in many other CR promotional interviews, the two Bond girls were asked how it was to kiss James Bond. Eva replied that they are both actors, that they are both very professional, that everybody can do that and that kissing Bond was the least of things. Our girl was also asked what was her favorite filming location and she answered Lake Como.

Here’s a reminder of upcoming events and Golden Compass news:

# Eva Green and Louis Garrel will both be present at the Festival Futuro Presente this Friday. The Italian festival is honoring Bernardo Bertolucci this year.
# About 15 minutes of footage will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off May 16. That’s the same buzz-generating strategy used for 2001’s Fellowship of the Ring. Dakota Blue Richards is expected to attend the festival, along with writer/director Chris Weitz (About a Boy) and co-stars Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott and Eva Green. But Nicole Kidman, who plays the mysterious Mrs. Coulter, will be busy shooting another film.
# The first teaser trailer will set sail May 25, along with Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Eva won’t be doing:

# The Happening by M. Night Shyamalan
# The Historian
# The Rum Diary by Bruce Robinson
# L’Ennemi public n° 1 and L’Instinct de mort – the two films based on the true story of Jacques Mesrine, France’s public enemy No. 1 during the 1970s
# Therese Raquin
# Underworld 3
# Wonder Woman
# Les Femmes de l’Ombre by Jean-Paul Salomé
# Two films that aren’t listed anywhere and that don’t seem to exist but that some guy posted about on IMDb.com some time ago: Cell 57 and Meathanne

It’s true that she was in talks for a few of these roles, but she wasn’t even offered some of them. It’s incredible how rumours start!

What’s true so far is that Eva signed to star in Franklyn opposite Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany and John Hurt. She’ll join the cast of Mr Nobody if her schedule allows her. But there’s nothing sure because it’s a question of timing. She’ll also be part of the two following installments of the His Dark Materials trilogy if they are made. She’s been attached to The Nazi Officer’s Wife and In The Country Of The Last Things in the past. Even though she was definitely interested in them, these films were lacking financement. We aren’t sure if they’ll be made. If they are ever made, it’s possible that Eva will already be attached to a new project at the time, but it’s also possible that she won’t and will be able to act in them. That’s all for now.
