Actress EVA GREEN has dismissed criticism her new movie THE GOLDEN COMPASS is an attack on Catholicism as a “fuss about nothing”.
The Casino Royale star insists author Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials literary trilogy, of which The Golden Compass is the first book, is morally sound, despite its thinly-veiled critique of the Roman Catholic church.
She says, “I am amazed people are so bored. They are making a fuss about nothing.
“In past regimes in Russia and China, everyone controlled beliefs. This is more about free will, freedom of speech and fate. Although the story evolves a lot. It is very religious in the third book.” The anti-religious content has reportedly been toned down in the film version of The Golden Compass on the orders of studio executives at New Line cinema, who feared a backlash in America.
The film’s star Nicole Kidman was also said to be concerned over perceived anti-Catholic sentiment in the original story.

Thanks to my friend Mina for letting me know that our Eva is gracing the cover of the December issue of Belgian Elle. As you can see, the photoshoot isn’t new. It was first published by Elle France last year. But it’s a beautiful one, and the interview is brand new. I’ll be adding the scans as soon as Mina emails me them.

If you have scans to contribute or other magazine alerts, please let us know! Eva fans from all over the world will appreciate.

New interview (in French) with Eva and Daniel Craig on 20minutes.fr. It’s an excerpt from the “Golden Compass” press conference.

Here’s my translation (you can find the French interview at the bottom):

After “Casino Royale”, Eva Green and Daniel Craig meet again in “The Golden Compass”.

There you are reunited again in a same film after “Casino Royale”. Did you do it on purpose?
DC: No! Chance took good care of it.
EG: It’s pure coincidence, even if I was happy to meet Daniel between takes.

ContactMusic did us a favor of misquoting Eva and quoting her as saying: “My fans anger me.”

If you read the recent Vogue interview, you’d know that she wasn’t referring to her fans, but to being associated to a Bond girl image, because some people still seem to think that Bond girl should only talk about beauty stuff and act like bimbos. Read the entire interview and see in what context she said that she gets very angry.

New interview in this Sunday’s Guardian!

Eva Green risked all in Bertolucci’s risque Dreamers and reinvented the Bond girl to match Daniel Craig’s definitive 007. Now, as the witch queen in the lavish $180m film of Philip Pullman’s Golden Compass, she’s again casting her spell. Here, she talks to Craig McLean about fame, frocks and four-letter words

The Observer

Gasping for a fag and with a little dog nibbling at her ankles, Eva Green is doing a rubbish job of promoting her new film.

‘My part is not really big, big in this one,’ the French actress says in her mellifluous but clipped English. She’s talking, distractedly, about The Golden Compass, the Hollywood blockbuster adaptation of Northern Lights, the first book in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. Green plays Serafina Pekkala, the flying witch queen who comes to the rescue of adolescent heroine Lyra Belacqua. But as Green is yet to see the film, she’s unable, or unwilling, to talk at length about it.

She’s also tired, it seems, and no wonder: she’s just back from a two-day trip to Australia to see her boyfriend, Kiwi actor Marton Csokas. They met while making Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven. He’s appearing on stage in Sydney in Riflemind, directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. ‘I know, I was completely mad – I spent more time in the air,’ she says of her love-dash. But it was, patently, worth it.

‘They’re promoting The Golden Compass like Lord of the Rings, you know, that kind of thing,’
