She’s so cool. I love the cartilage piercings. So damn pretty, I can’t contain it.

I saw the first episode of Penny Dreadful tonight on Sky Atlanti. Very watchable; though the melodrama is ramped up to 11 it is solidly textured and (unlike Camelot) the set design and backgrounds look utterly convincing and worth the cost. Harry Treadaway is impressive, suitably creepy and repellant. Timothy Dalton (the Bond I grew up with and whom I always felt was underappreciated!) is also excellent and looks astonishingly well for 70. But Eva is great. The attractive aspect of a television series is that you can build up the intensity of a character over time. You don’t have to inject it all into two hours like Dark Shadows or 300. A character gets time to develop organically.
