With a February start date line up, Tim Burton is going with a familiar face to lead the away in his next pic.

Eva Green is in negotiations to star in the Fox pic “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” which Burton will direct.

Based on the Ranson Riggs’ novel about a teenager who finds himself transported to an island where he must help protect a group of orphans with special powers from creatures out to destroy them. Green would play the title character, who acts as a guardian for these orphans.

Chernin Entertainment is producing the pic.

If the deal closes, the film would be a step closer to giving Burton another supernatural feature to tackle. Green and Burton had previously worked together on “Dark Shadows” and Burton has always enjoyed reteaming with thesps he has worked with in the past.

Green, who is repped by UTA and Tavistock Wood Management, was last seen in “300: Rise of an Empire” and can be seen next in Robert Rodriguez’s “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

She has also stayed busy on the TV front with her Showtime show “Penny Dreadful,” which was recently renewed for a second season.

Sothere will be 2 reasons to be excited for this film and season 2 of Penny Dreadful.

    Great news!!

Faith in Eva Green >> faith in Tim Burton lately. Still, I’m in. I hope she isn’t a straight-up villain (don’t tell me). I hope there are a few other adult roles in this – I can’t wait to hear about who’ll be joining her. My only worry is the start date – February 2015. When is she slated to film the new 10-episode season of Penny Dreadful? I assumed they’d film from March – April like last time.

  4. G Says:

@Nausicaa Penny Dreadful will start filming season 2 on September. It ends filming on January/February so if she signs up to this film, she’ll have to go straight to filming it right after filming Penny Dreadful season 2.

I’ve heard good things about this book, but haven’t read it. I really hope Tim Burton is back on track with Big Eyes and then this one. He has done some great movies in the past, but Alice in Wonderland was dismal. I actually found Dark Shadows to be quite funny, but also very uneven, definitely not among his best work. G, do you think the movie still has a chance to be released in 2015? Oh and the filming of this season of Penny Dreadful is happening earlier than last year, right? Hopefully they will air it a bit sooner, so it will be eligible for the Emmys next year. Eva is really deserving some recognition, she was amazing this season, especially in the episodes 5 and 7!

@Johnny If they are going to start shooting on February 2015, it *may* get a Fall 2015 release but don’t hold your hopes on it since the standard practice is releasing a film at least a year after it was shot. This is a Burton film so it’s more in the line of doing a blockbuster marketing and that kind of promotional process takes months. Additionally, most full length films require two to three months of shooting so it’ll occupy most of her spring schedule and I personally doubt Burton and the studio will be okay for a two month editing and promotional timeline if the rumored July 2015 release will be followed.

Penny Dreadful season 2 filming is a few weeks ahead of season 1’s filming, yes. Take note though that season 2 has 10 confirmed episodes so that’s probably why they’re starting earlier. Airing doesn’t matter as season 1 will be the one that is eligible for next year’s Emmys. The show and the cast are all eligible to get Golden Globe nominations later this year.

G, thank you for the reply and all the information 🙂
I’m really out when it comes to understanding how the Emmys work. Anyway I’m sure Eva will be recognized with a Golden Globe nomination, even though the ceremony is still a long time away. And maybe a Emmy will follow, Eva certainly deserves it, she was amazing as Vanessa!

As for the movie I agree with you, it looks like 2016 is a more safe bet. Anyway I still hope that they release Miss Peregrine close to Christmas, that kind of movies usually do well at the box office in that time. Well, Eva isn’t even locked yet, so this is too much speculation anyway 😉
